It has been called the invisible lodge. Set on a secluded 400 acre property, surrounded by Freycinet National Park, The Friendly Beaches Lodge is tucked into a pristine coastal forest of native pines, banksia and wattle. It is a place to unwind, watch visiting wildlife and appreciate the peace. You will retreat here after a long day’s walking to take a hot shower or bath, browse in the library, eat a delicious dinner and sleep in a real bed. This is a walkers’ lodge that offers comfort and style without pretention.
An Eco-Lodge
‘Eco’ is a term used so often today that it is not always meaningful. At the Freycinet Experience Walk it is our every day endeavour to make our environmental footprint as minimal as possible. This ethos is reflected in the way we manage the walk and the architecture of the lodge. Friendly Beaches Lodge is an eco-lodge in the truest sense of the word. Winner of awards from the Royal Australian Institute of Architecture for its sustainable design, this walkers’ haven sits lightly in delicate coastal bushland.
The sun and rain provide energy and water. Composting toilets ensure we keep the lodge’s beautiful setting pristine. The lodge’s busy kitchen also produces minimal waste and we have a comprehensive recycling program. Staying at Friendly Beaches Lodge you can be sure that it is not only your comfort that is catered for, but also the health of the environment.
A lodge-based walk
By returning to Friendly Beaches Lodge each night, rather than maintaining multiple lodges or camps on the Freycinet Peninsula, we minimise our environmental footprint. A lodge-based walk allows for enjoyable evenings of congenial company and conversation around the dinner table with beautifully prepared fresh food. For the duration of your stay, the lodge is for you and the walking party alone to enjoy.
Accommodation
Friendly Beaches Lodge has a shared dining and living area and two sleeping lodges known as North and South which branch off from the main lodge. North and South have a collection of double and twin rooms to suit everyone’s accommodation needs. They both incorporate a relaxed lounge area with a cosy wood-burning stove, a bathroom with a claw foot bath, a separate shower room and two composting toilets. We can offer individual travellers their own private room at no extra cost.
The Menu
At Friendly Beaches Lodge, you will share splendid meals and regional wines. Menus include fresh local flathead, oysters, grain-fed beef and excellent wines. The emphasis is on fresh, healthy and delicious. We are very happy to cater for special dietary requirements so please include any requests on the booking form.
