It’s been called the Invisible Lodge. Set on a secluded 400 acre property, surrounded by Freycinet National Park, The Friendly Beaches Lodge is tucked into pristine coastal forest of native pines, banksia and wattle. It’s a place to unwind, go slow, watch visiting wildlife and appreciate the peace. You’ll retreat here after a long day’s walking to take a hot bath, browse in the library, eat a delicious dinner and sleep in a real bed. This is a walkers lodge that offers comfort and style without pretention: expect comfort, naturalness and a real sense of tranquillity.

An Eco-Lodge

‘Eco’ is a term so often used today, it’s not always meaningful. At the Freycinet Experience Walk, it’s our every day endeavour to make the environmental footprint of what we do as minimal as possible. This is an ethos that runs through from the way we manage the walk to the architecture of the lodge. Friendly Beaches Lodge is an Eco-Lodge in the truest sense of the word. Winner of awards from the Royal Australian Institute of Architecture for its sustainable design, this walkers haven sits lightly in delicate coastal bushland.

The lodge is not connected to the electricity or town water grids: the sun and the rain provide energy for our lighting and water for baths and showers. Composting toilets ensure we keep the lodge’s beautiful setting pristine. The lodge’s busy kitchen also produces minimal waste and we have a comprehensive recycling program. Staying at Friendly Beaches Lodge, and walking the Freycinet Peninsula with us, you can be sure that it’s not only your comfort that is catered for, but the good of the environment also.

A lodge-based walk

By returning to Friendly Beaches Lodge Each night, rather than maintaining multiple lodges or camps on the Freycinet Peninsula, we minimise our environmental footprint. A lodge-based walk also makes for a wonderful group dynamic, allowing us to enjoy evenings of great company and conversation around our dinner table each night, and of course, beautifully prepared fresh food. For the duration of your stay, the lodge is for you and your walking party alone to enjoy; a true haven.
